National Flag of Argentina Picture and History: The national flag of Argentina made of three horizontal stripes colored light blue top and bottom and middle in white. In the center of white band is a golden sun which is sixteen long, wavy rays of sunshine emanate. The golden sun called the Sun of May.
The flag was designed by Manuel Belgrano, in line with the recent creation of the Cockade of Argentina, and during the Argentine War of Independence flag was first raised at the city of Rosario on February 27, 1812.
This flag was adopted on February 12, 1812, four years after Argentina achieved independence from Spain (1816). The “Sun of May” design was added to the flag in 1818.
